Is Reiki a Shitty Modality?

In my years of practicing and teaching Reiki, I’ve come across a common belief: “Reiki is a shitty modality.” 🤔

This sentiment often stems from dissatisfaction with workshops or the belief that Reiki didn’t work for them.

But before we delve deeper, let’s get real about what’s happening here.

The Search for Quick Fixes

Today’s world is looking for quick tips and tricks to improve their lives. We want things to be easy, fast, and convenient. The truth is that Reiki can be easy, especially regarding self-healing and personal growth. But like anything worth doing, it requires commitment and practice. And here's where many people hit a wall.

The Real Challenge: Practice

I’ve spoken with countless individuals from all walks of life who have learned Reiki, whether 20 years ago or just last year. When I ask about their practice, I often get a lukewarm response: “The workshop wasn’t great,” or, “I didn’t get much out of it.” But here’s the thing: no matter how good or bad the workshop was, the real question is—are you practicing?

Think of Reiki as going to the gym. You can’t just sign up for a membership and expect results. You have to show up regularly, put in the work, and push through the discomfort. Too often, people shift the responsibility onto the teacher, blaming them for their lack of progress. But at the end of the day, the universal energy you were attuned to during your Reiki experience is within you. You have the power to channel this energy for yourself and others. However, this starts with you.

The Resistance to Self-Practice

I’ve noticed that people struggle to practice Reiki because it forces them to confront themselves. It’s a journey into the discomfort, into the parts of your life that aren’t working, and into the places where you’re limiting your own growth. But that’s exactly where Reiki can be transformative—if you’re willing to practice.

Yet, even with this understanding, people often find themselves in environments that are unsupportive or even detrimental to their efforts. This is where the importance of community comes in.
